Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian told Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof that Tehran delayed retaliating for the assassination of Hamas chief Ismael Haniyeh, hoping that ceasefire efforts in Gaza would succeed.
“The missile attack by the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Zionist regime was intended to contain the regime’s barbarism, stop its attempts to expand crimes and attacks in the region, and achieve a ceasefire, peace, and stability, all within the framework of the UN Charter and international law, targeting only military sites,” Pezeshkian said during a phone call with Schoof.
Osama Abu Irshaid was returning home to the US from an international trip in June when he was stopped by customs officials at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
The interrogation by US officials at the airport puzzled Abu Irshaid. While he's not a stranger to these kinds of stops - he had been on a government watchlist until 2017 - Abu Irshaid told Middle East Eye that he had been given TSA pre-check status for years, allowing him to bypass the long lines at airport security.
But since Israel's war on Gaza began last October, Abu Irshaid, who is the executive director of American Muslims for Palestine, has witnessed a campaign of surveillance and repression launched by both the US government, private companies, and university campuses.
He was placed on the watchlist again, but now he says his family is also on it.
"This time, I'm back on it (the watchlist) because of my vocal position against the genocide that is taking place in Gaza," Abu Irshaid told MEE.

The Roman ruins in Baalbek, standing at around 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) above sea level, are among the most remarkable ancient sites and a popular tourist destination. The city and its surrounding areas have been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1984.
Massive temples were constructed there by the Roman Empire, with the Temple of Bacchus and the Temple of Jupiter being the most well-known. The six remaining columns of the Temple of Jupiter are a renowned Lebanese landmark.
The governor of Baalbek and Hermel confirmed that the Israeli attack landed “500 to 700 meters” from the famous castle known for its Roman architecture.

"The prime minister emphasized that Israel's actions against Hezbollah create an opportunity to change the reality in Lebanon, leading to greater stability, security, and peace across the region," the statement added.

At least three Palestinians have been killed and others injured in an Israeli strike targeting a house in al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, according to Wafa news agency, citing medical sources.

A further 21 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike targeting al-Aqsa Martyrs Mosque in Deir al-Balah and a further three people were killed in an attack on Ibn Rushd school in al-Zawaida.
Israeli forces killed a Palestinian journalist on Sunday, weeks after he received threatening messages instructing him to stop filming Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Hassan Hamad, 19, died when his home in Jabalia refugee camp was struck by artillery fire.
The Israeli military sent tanks and troops into the camp in the northern Gaza Strip late on Saturday following a night of heavy air strikes. It marked the military's third ground assault on Jabalia since the war on Gaza began a year ago.
Hamad was reporting on the new Israeli incursion just moments before he was killed.
A colleague with access to his account on X said that Hamad had been sending videos about the assault late into the night.
During their last phone call at 6am (3am GMT), Hamad said: “There they are. There they are. It’s over.”
A few months before his killing, Hamad shared a screenshot with his colleagues of a threatening WhatsApp message he received from an Israeli number.
The message read: “Listen… If you continue spreading lies about Israel, we'll come for you next and turn your family into... This is your last warning.”

“There are 17 martyrs, including nine children, in Israeli air raids in Jabalia,” civil defence spokesman Mahmoud Basal said.
Israeli forces launched a new offensive on the camp, with tanks invading and residential homes targeted in heavy overnight strikes. Tanks have now encircled the camp, trapping families inside.
Journalist Hassan Hamad was reported to be among the dead, with colleagues saying his home was "deliberately targeted" following repeated threats from Israeli officials to stop his reporting.
A 25-year-old woman has been killed and 10 injured in a shooting attack in southern Israel's Beersheba, according to emergency service provider Magen David Adom.
The police said they are treating the incident as a "suspected terrorist attack".
Wafa news agency earlier reported that journalist Hassan Hamad was killed in an Israel air strike on his home in northern Jabalia during the military's latest incursion into the camp.
His death has been confirmed by colleagues and Gaza's government media office.
Journalist Sulaiman Ahmed said in a post on X that Hamad was deliberately targeted by Israeli forces after receiving threats via messages and calls from Israeli officers, ordering him to stop his reporting.
