Salah supporters revel in tormentor Ramos's World Cup woes

Fans of "Egyptian king" Mohamed Salah couldn't help but celebrate Spain’s departure from the World Cup on Sunday, as Sergio Ramos's team were eliminated by Russia following a penalty shootout.

Spanish captain Ramos could be seen crying on the pitch after his team were knocked out of the World Cup. 

In May's Champions League final, Ramos, playing for Real Madrid, seriously injured Liverpool and Egypt forward Salah, dragging him to the ground in a move that appeared deliberate. Salah suffered a dislocated shoulder following the challenge, and left the pitch in tears, his hopes of playing for his country in the World Cup in doubt. 

Following Russia's triumph, social media was full of people celebrating Ramos’s fate and calling it "karma" for what he had done to Salah.  

Translation: Whoever is supporting Spain and is now sad, just remember that Ramos’s mood is ruined now just like he ruined the mood of 100 million people when he hurt Salah.

Reply: Yes very true, I am very happy

The injury meant Salah could not play in Egypt's opening game of the tournament, a late 1-0 defeat to Uruguay, and while he returned to the pitch to play Russia and Saudi Arabia, he was clearly not fully fit and his team lost both games.

Liverpool announced on Monday that Salah has agreed a new five-year deal with the club. The Egyptian scored 44 goals for the Merseyside team, earning himself superstar status and the nickname “Egyptian King”.

While Salah did score Egypt’s first World Cup goal in 28 years from a 73rd minute penalty during the game against Russia, the team's failure to win a single game was extremely disappointing. Before Salah's injury, Egypt had been confident of overcoming Russia and qualifying for the 2nd round of the tournament. It was not to be. On Sunday though, Egyptian fans could at least take some pleasure in Ramos's misfortune.
