A female member of a Turkish Marxist group was killed on Friday in clashes with police during an operation to arrest suspected militants, the official Anatolia news agency reported.

The woman was a member of the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party Front (DHKP-C) which Turkey has blamed for a string of attacks over the past years.

She was killed in a clash with police as they tried to enter a house in the Bagcilar district of Istanbul to make arrests, Anatolia reported.

Turkish police had earlier on Friday launched raids to arrest suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group and Kurdish militants following a wave of deadly violence in the country.

The Turkish authorities have long accused the DHKP-C of being in collaboration with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) of armed Kurdish separatists.
