Though Israel's bombardment of Gaza is now almost a year old, the Strip is still struggling to repair and recover.
But in spite of the difficulties, Palestinians have managed to maintain their cultural activities.
Noor Amal al-Barood knows more than anyone the struggle to maintain her optimism in the face of adversity.
Middle East Eye caught up with Noor, who is Gaza's sole blind oud player, to talk to her about her music and her life:
