Iraqi forces predicted some groups may defy orders and target Israel
Middle East Eye on Thursday reported that Iran-linked Iraqi political and armed forces had decided to distance themselves from Israel’s battles with Hezbollah and Iran, fearing a collapse of the already fragile Iraqi government and economy.
But despite attempts to keep the Iraqi paramilitaries away from regional battles, officials and armed factions commanders thought some groups may try to attack Israel anyway.
Two explosive-laden drones were launched from Iraq towards the Golan Heights, targeting an Israeli military base, the Israeli army said on Friday. The incident took place on Tuesday, and killed two soldiers and wounded 24 others, two of them critically.
It is unclear whether it took place before or after the Iranian missile attack that hit Israel on Tuesday night.
