US defends Unrwa following Israel threats to declare it a ‘terrorist organisation’

On Wednesday, the United States criticised an Israeli bill that seeks to designate the UN agency for Palestinian refugees as a terrorist organisation, calling such efforts “incredibly unhelpful.”
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated, “UNRWA is not a terrorist organisation, and we urge the Israeli government and the Knesset to stop advancing this legislation.”
He added, “The Israeli government’s attacks on UNRWA are highly counterproductive. They do nothing to further the goal of delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza."
