What did Ireland say regarding Palestine?
22 May 2024 09:13 BST
"We recognise the state of Palestine," Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said in his opening remarks this morning.
Recognising the Palestinian people's aspirations to be living freely is "the right thing to do", he added.
Palestinians in Gaza are experiencing the “most appalling hardship and suffering” Harris said, adding that Hamas had "nothing to offer".
Ireland recognises equally the right of Israel and Palestine to exist, Micheal Martin, the country's minister of foreign affairs, said.
"We recognise the state of Palestine just as we equally and resolutely recognise the state of Israel. This is not an endorsement of Hamas," Green party leader, Eamon Ryan, added alongside the other ministers.
