'Will our children survive winter?' asks northern Gaza resident

As the third day of the temporary truce in Gaza between Israel and Hamas begins, residents of northern Gaza continue to assess the full scale of the damage and destruction left by Israel's bombardment of the area.

One resident from the Sheikh Zayed region of northern Gaza told Al Jazeera Arabic that he returned home to the north after leaving for southern Gaza before the truce. He returned hoping to at least find some clothing for his kids ahead of the winter season.

However, all he found was rubble.

"We probably need 10 years just to remove the rubble, how are we going to live in those 10 years?" he asked.

"Especially as winter is approaching, we have no idea where we're going to go, where to shelter. In schools? In tents? But we have children. Will our children survive tents, survive the cold that is coming? We don't know what to do."
