Baghdad's streets were mostly empty on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Gunmen cruised in pickup trucks carrying machine guns and brandishing grenade launchers, but most residents observed a curfew.
Fighting was still continuing in the Green Zone, with smoke seen billowing from the area.
