Israels war on Gaza has killed at least 500 health workers since October, including several specialised doctors, AP news agency reports.

Amongst those killed were highly specialised doctors, including a plastic surgeon specialising in wound care, a reconstructive surgeon, an obstetrician/gynaecologist, an orthopaedic surgeon, a fertility doctor, and the only liver transplant doctor in Gaza.

Hassan Hamdan, a plastic surgeon who specialised in wound reconstruction, was killed along with 12 members of his family earlier this month after coming out of retirement to help during the war.

On Monday, an unmanned watercraft caused minor damage to the port side of the Liberian-flagged Greek tanker, Chios Lion, as part of a series of Houthi attacks on the vessel and another ship approximately 100 nautical miles northwest of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.

The Yemeni movement, which controls most of the country, claimed responsibility for targeting the Chios Lion and Bentley I with ballistic missiles, drones, and booby-trapped boats in what they say was retaliation for an Israeli air strike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Saturday.

Since November, Houthi strikes have impacted global trade, prompting ship owners to reroute vessels away from the Suez Canal and toward the longer, costlier route around Africa, following Israel's war on Gaza.

The Houthis have stated that as long as Israel's war on Gaza continues, shipping through the Red Sea will be restricted.

The US activist group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) has accused the Biden administration of "actively assisting" Israel in committing genocide in Gaza.

"The Israeli government's genocide is accelerating with full support from the US," JVP stated in a series of social media posts, urging supporters to contact their political representatives and take action against Israel.

JVP highlighted Washington's clear intent by noting the resumption of transferring 500-pound bombs to Israel's military last week.

"The US isn't just allowing the Israeli government to commit genocide; it's actively assisting it. It's well past time for a weapons embargo," the group added.

Israeli far-right groups accused of attacking aid convoys to the Gaza Strip have raised more than $200,000 on crowdfunding sites from donors in the US and Israel, where the contributions can be deducted from the individuals’ taxes.

Donations to the groups have poured in on Givechack, an Israeli crowdfunding site, and JGive, a US and Israeli crowdfunding site, according to a report by the Associated Press and the Israeli investigative site, Shomrim, based on open source inspections of the websites and other public records.

Charitable contributions are tax-deductible in the US and Israel.

Groups working to get aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave told the AP and Shomrim that "incentivizing these donations by making them tax-deductible runs counter to America’s and Israel’s stated commitments to allow unlimited food, water and medicine into Gaza".

One of the groups, Mother’s March, raised the equivalent of over $125,000 on Givechack and $13,000 on JGive.

Ohio Senator JD Vance says US President Joe Biden’s policies are prolonging the Gaza war, saying that a lack of US support for Israel was the reason fighting in the besieged enclave has not ended.

In a wide-ranging interview with Fox News, Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate provided what may be the clearest explanation yet of how the former president’s America First foreign policy would apply to Israel’s war on Gaza.

“Joe Biden has done nothing to help our ally Israel. Joe Biden has made it harder and harder for Israel to win that war. He has prolonged the war to take out Hamas,” Vance told Fox News, reiterating a view that has been expressed within Israel that the Biden administration is micromanaging Israel’s offensive, preventing it from attacking the Gaza Strip more forcefully.

Israel has conducted widespread bombing across the enclave and has killed at least 38,664 Palestinians in its response to Hamas’s 7 October attack on southern Israel, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

A mental health NGO has found “alarmingly high” rates of mental health disorders among Palestinians in Gaza, particularly women and children.

In a report published on Tuesday, the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) said that Israel’s ongoing war on the enclave has produced an “unprecedented mental health crisis” which could endure for “generations to come”.

The report found that Gaza’s children “live in a state of endless tragedy”, with many of them suffering from sleeplessness, sleepwalking, night terrors, constant shaking and bedwetting.

One father told GCMHP that one his children wets the bed at the sound of war planes and drones flying overhead.

Some children develop serious mental health disorders. A 13-year-old mentioned in the report suffers from visual and auditory hallucinations.
