Israeli soldiers have committed widespread abuses in Gaza, including potential war crimes, according to photos and videos they posted, shared and celebrated on their social media accounts, a new documentary has revealed.
According to the feature length documentary 'Gaza', published by Al Jazeera's Investigative Unit on Thursday, Israeli forces routinely shared abuses they committed on platforms including TikTok, instagram, YouTube and Facebook after invading the enclave.
The crimes ranged from wanton destruction and looting, to the demolition of entire neighbourhoods and possible unlawful killings.
Al Jazeera said it was able to track down the names, ranks and military units of many of the soldiers after compiling a database of "over two and a half thousand social media accounts, containing photos and videos placed online by Israeli soldiers."
Human rights lawyer Rodney Dixon, who watched an early screening of the documentary, called it "a treasure trove you very seldom come across."

The Israeli air strikes targeting central Beirut in the Dahiyeh suburb have resulted in a death toll of nine, according to Lebanon's ministry of health.
Additionally, the number of wounded individuals has increased to 14.
Gaza's death toll continues to rise, with the health ministry reporting that at least 41,788 people have been killed and 96,794 have been wounded by Israeli military attacks since 7 October.
In the latest 24-hour period, 99 Palestinians were killed, and 169 were wounded.
Preparations for the second round of polio vaccinations in Gaza are under way, with the campaign set to begin in mid-October.
This round will also include the distribution of vitamin A supplements, according to a recent update from the UN humanitarian agency.
During the first round in September, approximately 560,000 children under 10 were vaccinated, as reported by Unicef.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Gaza reported that Israel's ongoing war has severely disrupted education in the besieged region over the past year. Key findings include:
- Over 650,000 students have been barred from attending school for the second consecutive academic year

- Around 35,000 kindergarten-aged children have been deprived of early education

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned that the ongoing Israeli aggression has brought severe destruction to the Gaza Strip, with about 90 per cent of its facilities and infrastructure damaged.
Abbas called for urgent international intervention to stop what he described as the "barbaric" Israeli assaults on Palestine and Lebanon.
Abbas emphasised the grave risks facing the region due to Israel's continued violence and urged global action.
Hours after Iran launched 180 missiles into Israel on Tuesday, the Biden administration deemed the action “ineffective” and vowed that there would be consequences, despite a continued insistence on avoiding a wider regional war.
But by continuing to lend Israel its full-throated support over the past year both in Gaza and Lebanon, where tens of thousands of people have been killed - and by backing the crippling of Hezbollah’s leadership structure - the US has inadvertently provoked Iran.
Omar Rahman, a fellow with the Middle East Council on Global Affairs, told Middle East Eye the provocation could “likely amount to the outbreak of a very far-reaching and destructive war in the region”.
Iran telegraphed its previous response in April, but US officials this time around have denied reports that Iran had informed them of the attack before it took place.
Rahman said that means Iran has developed a new calculus.

On Thursday, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described the situation in Gaza as a "collective genocide," highlighting the dire conditions that have rendered the area uninhabitable.
He criticised Israel for its "impunity" and reiterated Qatar's long-standing concerns regarding the violence.
The emir also urged serious efforts for a ceasefire to halt Israel's aggression against Lebanon, asserting that lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Yemen's Houthi group announced that it "achieved its goals" in a recent drone strike on Tel Aviv, although Israeli officials have remained silent regarding the incident.
Military spokesman Yahya Saree stated, “the operation achieved its goals successfully as the drones reached their targets without the enemy being able to confront or shoot them down.”
He emphasised that the attack was part of their ongoing support for the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
In response, the Israeli military reported intercepting "a suspicious aerial target" over central Israel during the night, but did not provide additional details.
At least eight Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes and shelling on different areas of the Gaza Strip since the early hours of Thursday, medical sources have confirmed to Al Jazeera.
The United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has condemned Israel's decision to impose a travel ban on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, describing it as a "political statement" and the latest in a series of attacks by the Israeli government on UN personnel.
Dujarric emphasised that Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz's designation of Guterres as "persona non grata" was part of a broader pattern of hostility.
Katz accused Guterres of showing bias against Israel, alleging that he had not condemned Hamas for its 7 October attacks on southern Israel.
Dujarric rejected this claim, reiterating that Guterres had condemned the Hamas attacks on multiple occasions and pointed out that the UN continues to maintain operational and other levels of cooperation with Israel.
