Matthew Hollingworth, Lebanon country director for the UN World Food Programme, warned on Tuesday that Lebanon could face the same devastation as Gaza if the conflict is not stopped.
“It is in my mind from the time I wake until the time I sleep, that we could go into the same sort of spiral of doom … We shouldn’t allow that to happen,” he said, speaking to reporters from Beirut.
Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent has reported that Israeli air strikes have resumed around Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza.
Israeli forces on Monday beat to death a renowned 66-year-old Palestinian activist after raiding his home in the occupied West Bank.
Ziad Abu Helaiel was a popular tribal figure in the West Bank, famous for peacefully confronting Israeli soldiers during demonstrations and standing between them and protesters.
Abu Helaiel's son, Murad, told AFP that around 3am on Monday, a group of Israeli forces stormed their home in Dura, south of Hebron, trying to arrest one of their relatives.
"My father tried to stop them, so they struck him twice on the chest, then pushed him, causing his chest to collide with the door, which led to his martyrdom," Murad said.

Egyptian security forces detained several people on Monday while they were participating in a protest marking the first anniversary of the Gaza war, a rights group said.
According to the London-based Egyptian Network for Human Rights, a small group of young people held a protest on the Nile Corniche in Cairo on Monday, carrying Palestinian and Lebanese flags and banners condemning the deadly Israeli onslaught on Gaza and Lebanon.
Citing eyewitness accounts, the rights group said several participants were detained by security forces, but the exact number and names have yet to be confirmed.
“The Egyptian Network for Human Rights condemns the arrest of citizens peacefully expressing their support for their brothers and sisters in occupied Palestine and Lebanon and their opposition to the war on both countries, and calls for their immediate release,” the group said in a statement shared with Middle East Eye.

A World Health Organisation official warned on Tuesday of disease outbreaks in Lebanon due to crowded conditions in displacement shelters and hospital closures as medics have fled Israel's assault.
"We are facing a situation where there is a much higher risk of disease outbreaks, such as acute watery diarrhoea, hepatitis A, and a number of vaccine preventable diseases," the WHO's Ian Clarke, deputy incident manager for Lebanon, told a Geneva press briefing by video link from Beirut.

The Israeli army fired at least two air strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs on midday on Tuesday, which nearly hit a bridge that leads to Beirut's airport.
The strikes came minutes after the end of a recorded televised speech by Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem, where he reiterated his group's commitment to continue the fight against Israel.
Hezbollah deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem said in a recorded speech that his group's capabilities remain "solid", despite Israeli claims that it has significantly weakened them following weeks of massive attacks.
"Our military capabilities are fine. What our enemies say about our fighting capabilities is an illusion. They are lying," Qassem said.
"Our fighters on the front line are solid. What happened over the last 10 days is the pain of the Israelis is increasing. We are telling them, more and more Israelis will be displaced from the settlements. The Israeli plan is to kill Lebanese civilians and empty villages to cause chaos.
"But I tell them, your efforts are a failure."
Qassem added that every commander Israel has assassinated has been replaced, and that a new secretary general will be appointed following Hezbollah's procedure.
On the Israeli ground invasion, where Israeli soldiers suffered losses against Hezbollah fighters, Qassem says "the Israeli enemy has not advanced".
While he expressed support for efforts led by key ally and Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri to end the conflict, Qassem insisted that the group remains steadfast, and that "we will defeat Israel".
The Israeli army deployed a fourth division to join efforts in the ground operations in southern Lebanon.
The military's 146th Reserve Division began operations on Monday night in the western sector of southern Lebanon.
The Times of Israel reports that the number of Israeli soldiers inside Lebanon may now be over 15,000.
