We reported earlier that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is meeting with his Qatari counterpart and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has described the talks as “important consultations” about the current situation in the Middle East.
“It is only responsible for all states to maximise their efforts to shield our region against an imposed catastrophe by stopping genocide in Gaza and aggression on Lebanon,” he said on X after the talks.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says that the number of people killed in an Israeli air strike on a shelter at a school in Deir al-Balah has risen to 27.
“Palestine Red Crescent teams responded to 27 fatalities and 54 injuries following the Israeli occupation army’s targeting of Rafida School, located near the Palestine Red Crescent Society headquarters in Deir al-Balah,” the PRCS said on X.
At least 22 Palestinians were killed and dozens others were injured in an Israeli air strike that hit Rofaida school, sheltering the displaced, in the west of Deir al-Balah in the centre of Gaza.
Gaza’s governmental office denied Israeli claims that the school had members of Hamas.
Women and children were among the casualties who have been rushed to al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah.
The Israeli army did not comment on the strike.
This attack on Rofaida school is the most recent of a series of Israeli raids on schools housing thousands of displaced Gazans.
On 11 September, an Israeli strike on the al-Jawni School, run by the United Nations, killed 18 people, including six members of UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa.
Another Israeli strike on 1 August killed 15 people sheltering in the Dalal al-Mughrabi school in northern Gaza City. Two days after, a similar raid killed 16 people in the Hamama school.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that there have been intensified diplomatic communications in the past hours, prior to a UN Security Council meeting that will discuss the escalations in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
"There are contacts taking place between the United States and France with the aim of reviving a ceasefire declaration for a specific period in order to resume the search for political solutions," he was quoted as saying.
The Israeli news outlet Haaretz is reporting that the Israeli cabinet will meet in the evening, and that it is expected to discuss retaliation measures to Iran’s ballistic missile attacks.
On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held their first phone call since August, which is reported to have included talks on Israel's intended response to the Iranian attacks last week.
Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said after the call that his country's planned attack against Iran would be "deadly, precise and above all surprising".
The Israeli military said that 40 rockets have been launched from Lebanon towards Upper Galilee in northern Israel. It said some rockets have fallen in the area, and others have been intercepted.
Israeli media has reported damage in a building in Margaliot that was affected by a direct rocket strike.
Earlier, several media reported loud explosions in the Kiryat Shmona settlement. On Wednesday, a Hezbollah rocket killed two Israelis there.

This comes amid a regional tour that included Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Syria, and aims at looking to ending the Israeli bombings of Gaza and Lebanon.
At least five people have been killed, including children and a baby, in an Israeli air strike that bombed a house in the southern city of Khan Younis.
Wafa news agency reported that the strike, which hit a family house in al-Fakhari neighbourhood, has killed a family which includes the father, mother, and their three children, including a seven-month-old baby.
The Israeli military said it has killed two Hezbollah senior members, whom it claims intended to carry out attacks in northern Israel.
In a statement, the Israeli army said Ahmed Mustafa Al Hajj Ali, commander of the Hula region in Hezbollah, and Mohammad Ali Hamdan, the commander of the anti-tank unit in Meiss El Jabal region, were targeted by two separate air strikes in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah did not comment on the Israeli claims.
Israeli troops continue to storm Al Far'a refugee camp, located south west of Tubas in the occupied West Bank.
According to the Palestinian Wafa news agency, Israeli soldiers broke into houses and arrested a number of Palestinians. This comes while Israeli tanks continue to destroy the camp's infrastructure.
The United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said a ship was damaged in an attack that took place south west of Yemen’s Hodeidah.
“The master of the vessel reports being hit by unknown projectile and the vessel has sustained damage,” it said on X.
“No fires or casualties reported. The crew are reported safe and the vessel [is] proceeding to its next port of call,” it added.
At least three Palestinians were killed, and others injured in an Israeli air strike that hit Gaza’s Jabalia’s refugee camp, according to the Palestinian Wafa news agency.
Sources told Wafa that Israeli bombings hit al Houga street in the camp.

Plainclothes Israeli forces gunned down four Palestinian men in a vehicle in the West Bank city of Nablus, leaving another wounded, according to the Palestinian Wafa news agency.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said late on Wednesday that the total number of dead in Gaza now surpasses 42,000 people.
Based on data from the Emergency Operations Center in Gaza through 9 October, the total number of known deaths as a result of the Israeli assault on Gaza for the past year is 42,010.
The statement says an additional 10,000 people are missing, and almost 98,000 have been wounded.
It adds that "only 15 of Gaza's 36 hospitals are functional, all of them partially, facing critical shortages."
