13-year-old Palestinian killed during riots near Israeli separation wall

After a week of rising tensions in Jerusalem after Israeli border police limited Palestinian access to Al-Aqsa Mosque, Israeli forces reportedly shot and killed a 13-year-old Palestinian in a village near the separation wall with Israel on Thursday evening. 

In Beit Laqiya, Bahaa Samir Badir was shot three times in the chest at close range and, after suffering from severe bleeding, died two hours later at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, according to accounts from Ynet, the online website connect to the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, and Ma'an News Agency.

Badir was killed during clashes that erupted between Israeli forces and locals after the troops raided the village after stones were thrown in the area, according to media accounts.

As the Israeli forces left Beit Laqiya, soldiers stopped to repair a vehicle malfunction when villagers started to throw Molotov cocktails at a distance of 20 meters, an army spokesperson told Haaretz. 

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that Badir was wounded when Israeli forces fired live ammunition, birdshot and teargas to disperse other young Palestinians. 

A military police investigation will be held, the Israeli army spokesperson said.

Hundreds of Palestinians gathered to bury Badir on Friday, chanting slogans calling for a response to what they describe as Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

Forty-two Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank this year, according to Ma'an.

On Thursday evening, Arab Israelis in east Jerusalem's Silwan neighbourhood, recently in the news after a group of Israeli settlers took over 20 apartments in the Palestinian neighbourhood, also threw Molotov cocktails at a car and a police vehicle, The Guardian reported.
