From the Ritz to maximum security

A senior Saudi official said that billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who has been jailed for two months in an anti-corruption campaign, offered to make a "donation" to the Saudi government without any admission of wrongdoing or corruption, but the government refused, according to a report in the London-based newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi.

The unnamed official said the prince was negotiating a possible settlement with the Saudi authorities, but so far no agreement had been reached about the terms.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal was transferred from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where he was held, to the maximum security Al-Ha'ir prison after he refused to pay the amounts requested by the government.

Underwhelming Abbas

Palestinian factions are angry following Mahmoud Abbas' speech at a Palestine Liberation Organisation meeting in Ramallah on Sunday, according to Arabi21 news website.

Factions quoted in Arabi21's report said the Palestinian president's speech was "under the level of challenges, and under the hopes for the people, especially while the threat is escalating against Jerusalem".

Hamas spokesman Hazim Qasim told the news site: "The speech lacks the real steps that are required nationally by all the components of the Palestinian people, which are called for by all".

"Instead of focusing on core issues, it began attacking Hamas and its national symbols, a clear indication of Abbas's refusal to reach commonalities with all the Palestinian national forces, and his refusal to reach a unified programme," Qasim said.

Dojo dispute

A Kuwaiti citizen attacked a 10-year-old Egyptian boy after he beat his son in a karate competition, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai.

The father apparently hurt the child so he wouldn't attempt to beat his son again.

The father of the Egyptian child recorded an assault charge with a local authority against his son's aggressor after the incident was documented on phones.
