Liverpool's talismanic striker Mohamed Salah's first appearance in a Champions League final ended in tears as the Egyptian international was forced off with a suspected shoulder injury in the 31st minute of Saturday's final in Kiev against Real Madrid.

Salah, who scored 44 goals in all competitions for Juergen Klopp's side this season, took a tumble following a challenge from Real captain Sergio Ramos and required treatment on the pitch, although he came back on moments later.

Salah, who had been slated to carry Egypt's hopes at next month's World Cup in Russia, then crumbled to the ground for a second time and was seen crying when he got up and then left the field to be replaced by Liverpool's England international Adam Lallana.

The Madrid side were also forced to make a change in the first half shortly after Salah went off when defender Dani Carvajal injured himself as he attempted a backheel.

The Spain international was also seen crying as he left the pitch to be replaced by Nacho in the 37th minute.

Still, for the 13th time in history and by far most all time, Real Madrid won the Champions League, beating Liverpool 3-1, CBS Sports reported.

Salah's and Egypt's World Cup dreams may also be under threat, depending on the severity of his injury.

The Associated Press reported that the Egyptian national team, preparing for its first World Cup since 1990, posted a picture of Salah on Twitter with the message: "Get well soon."

Egypt is scheduled to play Uruguay in their opening Group A game on 15 June, before facing host nation Russia and Saudi Arabia.
