Palestinian killed after alleged stabbing in West Bank
Two Palestinians were shot in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, after attempting to stab an Israeli policeman at a checkpoint on Friday, an Israeli army spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said one Palestinian had been killed while the other was in a critical condition.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the man killed as Qassem Mahmoud Sabaneh from Jenin.
Another Palestinian was shot and severely wounded after allegedly stabbing and lightly injuring a civilian in Jerusalem on Friday, police said, in the first reported knife attack in the city for two weeks.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri told the AFP news agency that the attacker stabbed one person and attempted to stab another when he was shot.
The stabbing took place in East Jerusalem near the French Hill settlement.
Samri said a bystander was also hit by gunfire when security guards opened fire on the attacker.
The attack was the first in Jerusalem since October 17, and took place near a tram line separating Jewish and Palestinian neighbourhoods.
