VIDEO: Syria is using Game of Thrones to lure people to Aleppo

Syria's tourist board touts war-torn Aleppo as tourism hotspot in promo video featuring a remix of the Game of Thrones soundtrack

The Syrian Ministry of Tourism released a video yesterday promoting government-controlled territory in Aleppo as a tourism destination.

Showcasing well-manicured parks and fancy hotel pools, it is certain to raise eyebrows in light of recent events.

In a bizarre twist, the video also features a remixed soundtrack from the hit US series Game of Thrones - a fantasy drama known for its gore and bloodshed, and based on feuding families fighting over the throne.

The video omitted any reference to east Aleppo for obvious reasons - the rebel-held enclave has been suffering from a brutal siege and relentless bombardment by pro-government forces for months.

The World Health Organisation said that 338 civilians, including 106 children, have been killed and 846 wounded in the past few weeks in the city.
