VIDEO: Yemen's best and brightest denied education in Lebanon

Almost 90 Yemeni students were awarded scholarships to study in Lebanon but once they arrived, their money never came

BEIRUT - With the Houthi militias in charge of the Yemeni capital and tensions growing, in late 2014 the government decided to send 87 of its brightest students to Lebanon to study.

The Ministry of Vocational Training promised to pay for the student's board and tuition, but once the students arrived, Yemeni authorities were slow to help, forcing the students to try and finance themselves.

Once the war broke out in March, however, this quickly became impossible for many as parents and relatives could no longer send money. In this video, students describe feeling helpless and even suicidal at the thought of watching their once bright futures slip away.
