Palestinian child dies after being shot by Israeli forces in Jenin
A 12-year old Palestinian boy has died almost two weeks after being shot and seriously wounded by Israeli forces as they conducted a raid in Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Mahmoud Mohammad Samoudi was hit in the stomach by a bullet during the 28 September army raid on Jenin and has now succumbed to his wounds.
His death comes after four other teenagers were killed by Israeli military fire in a series of West Bank operations over the weekend.
The British consulate in Jerusalem called on Israeli authorities to "conduct a swift and thorough investigation and for restraint in the use of live ammunition".
Samoudi is the 44th Palestinian to have been killed by the Israeli army in Jenin this year. Forty of those victims were from Jenin, while three were from villages nearby.
Four Palestinians were killed in the raid that Samoudi was shot in, while 44 were wounded, including the 12-year-old.
Abed Khazem, brother of a Palestinian man named by Israel as the killer of three Israelis in a Tel Aviv shooting spree on 7 April, was killed by Israeli forces in the same raid.
Security sources told MEE that a large force of Israeli troops had raided Jenin and its refugee camp, firing in all directions and shooting teargas canisters, before surrounding and shelling a house that belongs to Fathi Khazem, father of Abed and his brother Raad.
Israeli forces have conducted repeated raids on Jenin in the last few months as part of their "Break the Wave" operation.
