Op-Ed video: Why Israel faces a strategic defeat in Gaza
Israel's western backers are being forced to confront the atrocities being committed against Palestinians in Gaza, five months after they had declared the campaign as "just."
More than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed and around 1.7 million displaced, in what was described at the International Court of Justice in January as a plausible genocide.
Nearly 74,000 people have also been wounded, according to health officials. The figures does not include the thousands who are believed to be buried in the bombed-out ruins of homes, shops, shelters and other buildings.
David Hearst, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Middle East Eye, says the ongoing genocide case at the International Court of Justice, the erosion of Jewish consensus, and the increasing nervousness among Israel's backers collectively indicate a strategic defeat for Israel.
"A rubicon has been crossed," Hearst said.

"With this war, Israel has entered the elite rank of pariah states. It is now the ugliest of the ugly. It's impossible to forgive. It cannot be justified, nor can it be put into context. The entire operation in Gaza is an atrocity."
