Israel’s defence minister claims successor of Nasrallah ‘eliminated’

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant claimed on Tuesday that the successor of assasinated Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been killed.

It's been widely believed that Hashem Safieddine, a senior Hezbollah official, would be Nasrallah's successor.

"Hezbollah is an organisation without a head. Nasrallah was eliminated, his replacement was probably also eliminated," Gallant said during a briefing at the Israeli military's northern command centre, as reported by Reuters. He didn't name the replacement.

"There's no one to make decisions, no one to act," he said.

Hezbollah's deputy secretary general Naim Qassem on Tuesday said his group is due to elect a new chief and would announce it when it happens.
