Palestinians shot dead after attacks in the West Bank

A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday after he stabbed a soldier in the neck, northwest of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Abdel Rahman Barghouti, 27, attacked an Israeli soldier at a checkpoint near the village of Aboud.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that Barghouti died after he was shot in the neck and the arm.

Eyewitnesses reported that his body was taken away by Palestinians in the area and delivered to a hospital in the town of Salfit.

Bodies of alleged Palestinian attackers are kept by the Israeli government as an attempt to deter further attacks, but officials are severely divided on whether the policy is effective or not.

Israeli medical sources said that the soldier, not yet named, was suffering from moderate to serious wounds in his upper body. He was evacuated to Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.

Shortly afterward, a Palestinian man ran his vehicle into a group of soldiers stationed by a checkpoint at the entrance of the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah.

Two of the soldiers were injured, while the Palestinian driver was shot dead, said Israeli police spokesperson Luba Samri.

Overnight, two Palestinian teenagers were shot dead after an alleged stabbing attack in Tel Rumeida, Hebron.

"In response to the threat, forces fired at the attackers, resulting in their death. A soldier was moderately wounded," an Israeli army spokesperson said in a statement.

The teens were identified as cousins Taher Faysal Fannoun, 19, a student at Hebron University, and Faysal Abd al-Minem Fannoun, 15.

At least 113 Palestinians have been killed since 1 October, many of them suspected of attacking Israelis.

Nineteen Israelis have been killed in attacks during the same time period.
