A Lebanese goalkeeper was left embarrassed after making a costly mistake while playing for his club Al Ahed in the AFC Cup against Turkmenistan's Altyn Astyn.

Hassan Bittar, a national team player, let the ball run under his foot and into the net from a gentle backpass from one of his teammates as his side slumped to a 2-0 defeat in the continental club competition.

The hapless error was seized on by football fans with some Twitter users punning that the player shouldn't "be Bittar", while even the usually sober BBC asked: "Is this the worst goalkeeping mistake ever?"
