A Turkish man on Wednesday threw cash worth more than $10,000 from the balcony of a building after staging an armed robbery in an Istanbul bank, according to local media.

Turkish daily Hurriyet reported that the man threw 30,000 Turkish lira ($10,600) from the top floor balcony of a bank he had robbed with a rifle.

The bank is on Ciftegelinler Street in the Kumkapi district of Istanbul.

The man stole the money from bank vaults before going to the top of the bank’s building after spotting police arriving to arrest him.

He shot in the air with his rifle as he threw the money on to the street below.

Police cordoned off the street before launching four hours of negotiations that ended with the man surrendering.

Locals told Hurriyet that the man's father sold the building to the bank four years ago and claimed that the robber thought the sale had been unjust.

The robber was taken to a local police station after being arrested. Meanwhile, police collected the money he had thrown onto the street.
