‘Clear political signal’: Record low turnout reported in Iraq’s parliamentary elections

Muqtada al-Sadr’s political movement has made strong gains in Iraq’s parliamentary elections, according to initial results released on Monday.

The weekend’s election saw a voter turnout of just 41%, an all time low since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq.
