On the 20 November 1979, as worshippers finished fajr prayer in Mecca’s Grand Mosque, radical Saudi preacher Juhayman al-Otaybi and hundreds of his armed followers violently besieged Masjid al-Haram and called for the downfall of the Saudi royal family.
