Many of Egypt's self-proclaimed 'liberals' rallied behind the coup against the country's first democratically elected president because of their disdain and rejection of the Muslim Brotherhood, says blogger and journalist Hossam el-Hamalawy.
Speaking to David Hearst, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Middle East Eye, Hamalawy said many have also justified the massacre of more than 900 protesters at the Rabaa and al-Nahda squares.
"History will never forgive them," Hamalawy said, adding that the position of the Egyptian left was "disgraceful."
"I don't think any of them has issued a statement of apology over their position on Rabaa."
"They have reached the conclusion that the Muslim Brotherhood needs to be eradicated form society."
