16-year-old shot dead in West Bank clashes
A 16-year-old Palestinian was shot dead during clashes with the Israeli military on Wednesday morning.
Omar Yousif Jawabira was shot in the chest at the al-Arroub camp north of the West Bank city of Hebron.
Jawabira was taken to hospital but died of his wounds there, Palestinian news agency Maan quoted Sharif al-Tadra, the head of the emergency department at the local hospital, as saying.
His funeral will be held following afternoon prayers on Thursday.
The death comes a day after Israeli forces locked down the nearby village of Nahalin following a stabbing attack that targeted an Israeli settler.
Security forces said they would only allow “humanitarian cases” in and out of Nahalin, some 30kms north of al-Arroub, while they searched for a Palestinian man suspected of stabbing and wounding an Israeli jogger on Tuesday.
The stabbing attack near Nahalin was similar to Palestinian attacks over the past four months targeting Israeli security and civilians in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and Israel.
The wave of violence that erupted in October has now claimed the lives of 166 Palestinians, 26 Israelis, an American, an Eritrean and a Sudanese.
Most of the Palestinians were killed while allegedly carrying out attacks, while others have been killed during clashes and demonstrations.
Neve Daniel is part of the Etzion bloc of settlements, a focal point of the unrest.
