Arabic press review: Egyptian activist turns on brothers in televised rant

An Egyptian opposition activist has returned from exile to denounce his former allies in a controversial television appearance weeks before the country's presidential election, Arabi21 has reported.

Ramy Jan returned from Turkey to appear on Dream, a pro-government television channel, to accuse the Muslim Brotherhood of multiple "violations" against him.

"I thought I was fighting with the oppressed side, I wanted to... ascertain the extent of the Brotherhood's grievance," he said. "But after a long journey from 2012 until 2018, and after dealing directly with them, I realised that these people only have hatred of Egypt."

Brotherhood supporters claimed Jan had turned tail and had been co-operating with Egyptian intelligence for some time while abroad.

All good in the hood

Morocco's prime minister has denied media reports of planned early elections, saying there was "reasonable harmony" among members of the government and the ruling Justice and Development party.

Saad Eddine Othmani told the London-based newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi that there were no arguments inside his party.

UNRWAvelling

Rome is today hosting an international conference to discuss possible alternatives to save UNRWA, the UN agency that provides services to Palestinian refugees across the MIddle East, according to the Jordanian newspaper, al-Ghad.

The newspaper the rescue conference was being held in light of the organisation's financial crisis, as well as the US-Israeli efforts to cancel its presence and to end the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

According to the newspaper the Jordanian foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, will lead the conference with the foreign ministers of Egypt and Sweden.

No fly zone

Kuwaiti MPs have submitted a draft law to ban Kuwaiti citizens from travelling to Israel or to the Palestinian territories under the supervision of Israel, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper, al-Anba.

The draft states: "All Kuwaiti citizens are prohibited from travelling to any Palestinian territories held by the Israeli occupation or entering these lands with permission from the occupation authorities without prior official permission from the minister.

"Entry or reception of persons with Israeli citizenship [to] Kuwait or at the headquarters of diplomatic missions shall be prohibited, too."
