20 killed in double bomb blast in Syria's Hasakeh province
A double bomb blast has killed 20 people and injured 70 others in Syria’s Hasakeh province.
Syrian state media reported the blast on Monday afternoon and said that rescue teams were searching the rubble of collapsed buildings for more casualties.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that one bomb blast targeted pro-Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) positions in Kashman in the north of Hasakah city, while another booby-trapped vehicle exploded near a train station close to pro-government National Defence Forces (NDF) positions in Mahata in the centre of the city.
Hasakeh is currently jointly controlled by the YPG and NDF, after they drove out the militants of the Islamic State (IS).
More than 240,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011.
The government has lost large swathes of territory to rebels and militants such as the Islamic State group.
