Israel's army has launched military strikes on the Gaza Strip after rockets were fired from the coastal enclave on Tuesday afternoon, the Israeli military has confirmed.

Three rockets fired by Palestinian fighters in Gaza struck near the southern Israeli city of Beersheva Tuesday, hours before a ceasefire was due to expire, the military said.

"Three (rockets) fell on open ground in the Beersheva area," a spokesperson told AFP. There were no reports of casualties.

Ceasefire talks taking place in Cairo have reportedly collapsed as a result, according to Haaretz, who report that Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli negotiating team to return home.
