Donald Trump shares photoshopped cartoon taken from Middle East Eye

Donald Trump on Friday retweeted a photoshopped political cartoon that was originally produced for Middle East Eye.

The aspiring Republican presidential candidate shared an image showing him wagging a finger towards Syrians fleeing war, telling them that they cannot enter the United States and stating: "Saudi Arabia has plenty of room for you."

Trump's tweet has since been re-shared nearly 4,000 times.

The original cartoon, drawn for MEE by Carlos Latuff, portrayed Gulf sheikhs on the one hand approving of Syrian rebels and on the other refusing to accept refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

Latuff posted the cartoons side-by-side and said Trump "should care about [copyright] laws".

The original cartoon was drawn last year when Gulf states were facing criticism for allegedly not accepting any Syrian refugees.

The Gulf states have since fought back against the accusations, and have argued that they have allowed millions of Syrians to enter their countries on work visas since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.

Trump is leading the race to be the Republican party’s candidate in the upcoming US presidential election.

He has gained notoriety during his campaign for statements on stopping Muslims entering the US, and preventing any refugees from entering the country.
