IS-claimed car bomb at wedding kills dozens in Iraq
At least 30 people were killed on Thursday when a suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives a wedding in central Iraq attended by tribal leaders, security sources said.
"Thirty civilians and Sunni tribal elders were killed when a suicide car bomb hit a wedding party," security sources told Sky News Arabia.
Some sources put the death toll far higher - dozens of others are also known to have been injured in the blast.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, also saying that 30 people were killed.
The bombing hit a wedding taking place on Thursday night in Amiriyat Fallujah, a small city in the Fallujah district of Anbar province, central Iraq.
The governor of Anbar province has formulated an emergency task force in the aftermath of the blast.
Photographs shared on social media, purportedly from the scene, showed wounded casualties being rushed to hospital, as well as a dusty clearing strewn with overturned plastic chairs of the kind typically used at outdoor gatherings in Iraq.
The groom, named locally as Seif Jumaa Maajal, was reportedly among the dead.
Maajal was reportedly the son of a tribal leader who has been active against Islamic State.
