Flash floods leave at least 2 dead in Oman
Severe flooding across the Gulf sultanate of Oman has killed at least two people on Friday, according to local media.
Gulf News reported that two Omanis were killed when their vehicle was swept away by flood waters in Wadi Kabeel of Qurayat province, south of Muscat.
The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) said that three other Omanis were rescued in Wadi Bani Karoos in the Dhank province.
Heavy rains were also reported in 13 other Oman provinces and resulted in the cancellation of the Red Bull F1 Showrun.
The race, which was expected to last for two hours, instead lasted for less than two minutes, as hundreds of racing fans had gathered along the sea road in Muttrah to watch the race.
In a rare occurence for one of the hottest countries in the world, some parts of Samayil province, west of the capital, were also reportedly covered by snow.
An arid country, mean annual rainfall in the coastal plains and desert areas of Oman is low, usually less than 40mm.
