Israeli woman dies from wounds after settlement stabbing attack

An Israeli woman stabbed by two Palestinians in a West Bank settlement has died of her wounds, a spokesperson for Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem said on Tuesday.

The woman, identified in Israeli media as 24-year-old Shlomit Krigman, was one of two Israelis to be targeted in an attack carried out by two Palestinians on Monday. 

"Despite the efforts of medical staff and efforts to stabilise her condition, we were forced to announce her death this morning," the Hadassah spokesperson said.

Another woman in her 50s was moderately wounded in the same attack and is being treated at a different hospital.

The attack took place at a grocery store in the Beit Horon settlement, northwest of Jerusalem. The two Palestinians were both shot dead by an Israeli security guard while fleeing the scene.

Israeli police said one was in his early 20s while the other was a teenager.

Following the attack, two pipe bombs were found nearby.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the 23-year-old was identified as Ibrahim Osama Yousif Allan from the village of Beit Ur at-Tahta west of Ramallah.

Hussein Muhammad Abu Ghush, 17, was identified as the second attacker.

The Israeli army spokesperson told Maan News Agency that following the attack, all entrances and exits to Beit Ur at-Tahta were sealed by Israeli military forces. Only medical emergencies were permitted to leave and enter the village, the spokesperson added.

The movement of the 6,000 residents from the village remained restricted on Tuesday.

The attack was the third inside a West Bank settlement since 17 January, when an Israeli woman was stabbed to death at the entrance to her home in Otniel.

Last week a 13-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead and two 15-year-olds were detained after carrying out separate attacks on Israeli settlers or security.

According to public radio, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the army to submit a "comprehensive plan" to better ensure the security of settlements.

Violence since 1 October has killed 159 Palestinians and 25 Israelis, as well as an American and an Eritrean, according to an AFP count.

Many of the Palestinians killed have been attackers, while others have been shot dead by Israeli forces during protests and clashes.
