A seven-year-old girl from eastern Aleppo who has acquired a mass following for her Twitter account from the war-torn Syrian city has reappeared on social media after she went offline sparking fears for her safety.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Bana Alabed, whose mother helps write her updates, reassured her followers that she was alive and well.

Alabed disappeared from the social network on Sunday amid a government offensive to retake rebel-held areas.

A new tweet appeared on Monday, apparently from her mother, saying there was still grave danger and that there was "nowhere to go".

People around the world used Twitter to call for information about Bana's whereabouts on Sunday.

Among them was author JK Rowling, who recently sent Bana an entire set of Harry Potter eBooks after the young girl posted that she liked to read "to forget the war".

Bana's mother Fatema created the Twitter account for her daughter in late September to "share our life here to the world'' as the Syrian army launched a major offensive to recapture Aleppo.

The Twitter account has amassed more than 200,000 followers since.
