Video: Cairo residents celebrate Eid-al-Fitr

Egyptians demonstrate in soldarity with the people of Gaza, where the death toll continues to rise under Israeli bombardment

Cairo residents celebrate Eid-al-Fitr in Cairo, marking the end of Ramadan, amidst continuing instability and violence in the country, and a growing outrage at Israel's assault on Gaza.

Supporters of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood have continued demonstrations against the government of Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who overthrew the elected President Mohamed Morsi while head of the army in July 2013.

Solidarity demonstrations have also continued with the people of Gaza, as the Palestinian death toll rises to as many as 1100 people, although a rise in anti-Palestinian prejudice has been seen recently in Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the parent organisation of Hamas and some Egyptians have automatically linked Palestinians with their influence.

In spite of this, the plight of the Palestinians continues to strike a chord across the Middle East.
