VIDEO: Canada welcomes refugees with song of refuge sang to Prophet Mohammed
Canada welcomed a plane-load of Syrian refugees to their country by singing an ancient Islamic song.
A group of school children sang Tala’ al-Badru ‘Alayna to the Syrians, a song that was sang to the Prophet Mohammed when he sought refuge in the city of Medina.
The song contains a message of welcome and hope, the lyrics include:
Oh the white moon rose over us
From the valley of Wada'
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Where the call is to Allah
Oh you, who were raised among us
Coming with a word to be obeyed
You have brought to this city nobleness,
Welcome best caller to God's way
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau personally welcomed the new arrivals on Friday, saying the Syrians walked off the plane refugees but entered his country with the opportunity of becoming full Canadians.
One hundred and sixty-three refugees were on the plane, and Canada hopes to welcome a total of 10,000 Syrians by the end of December.
