US President Barack Obama appeared to ignore Iraqi Prime Minister Hayder al-Abadi at the G-7 summit of world leaders in Germany on Monday.

Obama was sitting on a bench chatting to Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde when Abadi sat next to him with an advisor.

Obama, Renzi, and Lagarde appeared unaware of Abadi’s presence, who was clearly intending on speaking to the American president.

Abadi waited to speak to Obama for a few seconds before checking his watch and backing away – in a cringe worthy moment of awkwardness. The Iraqi leader was presumably hoping to speak to Obama about his country’s war against the Islamic State group, which has been a key topic on the agenda at the G-7 summit.

The whole incident was caught on camera and has been shared widely on social media websites.
