Israeli forces injured several Palestinians in and near the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin overnight.

Official Palestinian Authority (PA) news agency Wafa reported that Israel's forces shot at least six Palestinians with live bullets, including one who was hospitalised in the city of Nablus in a severe condition after being shot in the abdomen.

Members of the Israeli border police's Yamam special unit reportedly entered Jenin in the early hours on Tuesday in order to arrest a Palestinian - identified as Mohammed al-Qaddoumi  - when clashes erupted with residents.

Israeli news network Makan reported that Israeli military vehicles sustained minor damages during the incident.

In a separate incident earlier on Monday evening, a Palestinian citizen of Israel from the town of Umm al-Fahm was shot by Israeli forces and severely injured near Jenin, Wafa reported. Israeli media reported that he and another Palestinian had been trying to drive back into Israel at the time.

Israeli forces frequently carry out night-time arrest raids across the occupied West Bank. In June, Yamam forces killed three Palestinians in Jenin during an arrest raid.

According to Palestinian prisoners' rights group Addameer, 4,850 Palestinians were being detained by Israel as of July.
