Israeli forces kill Palestinian after alleged stabbing
Israeli security forces shot dead a Palestinian man in occupied East Jerusalem on Saturday, after he allegedly stabbed an Israeli civilian, Israeli police and Palestinian medics said.
Footage from the scene near Damascus Gate shows Israeli forces shooting at the Palestinian, identified as Mohammad Shawkat Salima, at least twice while he was already lying on the ground.
Media reports said Abu Salameh was a 25-year-old from Salfit, in the occupied West Bank.
In the wake of the killing, security forces closed off the entrances to the Old City, while clashes briefly erupted between Palestians and Israeli police at the scene.
Israeli authorities claimed that Salima stabbed a 20-year-old Israeli man, who is in "moderate to severe condition," and then attempted to attack a police officer.
Last week, Israeli police forces killed a Palestininan man, identified as 42-year-old Fadi Abu Shukhaidem from Shuafat neighbourhood, for allegedly shooting dead an Israeli and wounding two others in the Old City.
