A 19-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by the Israeli army during a raid early on Monday in Qabatiya, south of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry has said.

"Taher Mohamed Zakarneh was shot dead by the occupation (Israeli) bullets in Qabatiya," a ministry statement said.

He died after being "hospitalised with a bullet to the head, a bullet to the right foot, a bullet to the left thigh, and burns", the statement added.

The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned the killing, calling it an execution.

Another youth was injured and three others detained in Qabatiya, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The Israeli army said it had "conducted counterterrorism activity in the city of Jenin and in the town of Qabatiya and apprehended five wanted individuals suspected of terrorist activity".

A total of 17 individuals were arrested in overnight raids across the West Bank, the army said.

The army has been conducting near-daily raids in the West Bank since the start of the year in which scores of Palestinians have been killed.

Also overnight, four Israeli soldiers were injured when an explosive device was thrown at their post near the Palestinian town of Nabi Saleh, the army said.

According to Haaretz, a car driver was also injured when a stone was thrown at his car near the illegal settlement of Ofra.

The Israeli newspaper said the driver was evacuated to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
