Israeli forces kill Palestinian during Nablus raid
Israeli forces fatally shot a 21-year-old Palestinian and wounded at least seven others during a raid on Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Monday.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said Amir Bustami succumbed to his wounds on his way to the hospital.
A large contingent of Israeli forces raided Nablus and surrounded a residential building, leading to an intense shoot-out with armed Palestinians, according to the Palestinian state news agency Wafa.
Israeli forces detained two Palestinians, while dozens of residents suffered from shortness of breath due to tear gas inhalation, including a pregnant woman and an infant, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
On Sunday Israeli forces killed a 14-year-old Palestinian, Qusai Radwan Waked, during a raid on Jenin in the West Bank.
Radwan was shot in the stomach and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bustami’s death brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israelis so far this year to 47. At least 10 Israelis have also been killed.
Last year, Israeli forces killed at least 167 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the highest death toll in the region a single year since the Second Intifada.
CIA director William Burns warned last week that current tensions bear an "unhappy resemblance" to the Second Intifada.
He added that the CIA is working with Israeli and Palestinian security services to prevent "explosions of violence", but admitted that it's "going to be a big challenge".
