Sisi-mania, the fad that's sweeping Egypt

Since rising to power in Egypt, former army chief Fatah al-Sisi's image has adorned everything from underwear and cologne to video games

Since the ouster of Mohammad Morsi last year, former Field Marshall Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has risen to the status of a national hero in Egypt, looking set to easily win the upcoming presidential elections. "Sisi-mania" as commentators have labelled it, has spread all around the country, developing increasingly diverse outlets for the adoration of the Egyptian strongman.

Middle East Eye has a look at some of the more eccentric expressions of Sisi-mania:

Sisi App

For the busy Sisi fan who struggles to stay tuned to the General's latest movements and announcements, there is now a solution: the Sisi app, available for Apple and Android interfaces.

The app, which is free and has been downloaded over 1000 times globally since its release on 14 May, gives users updates on what Sisi has been up to, as well as insights into his family life and videos of his public meetings.

Ringtones

The latest addition to the array of Sisi memorabilia is a ringtone featuring some of the presidential candidate's more inspirational sayings set to a background of soft piano and strings, with sound effects thrown in for good measure.

Among the insights being offered by the former Field Marshall are:

“We have a hope that Egypt will return to its glories."

“This will not happen without hard work.”

“These are the Egyptians I know. This is Egypt I always serve. I also promise you that I’ll do my best. Work is all I have. Work is what all I require from you all.”

Take a listen here:

Super Sisi

Apparently desiring to further solidify Sisi's heroic image, someone has created a downloadable adventure game app called "Super Sisi" . As Super Sisi, your task is, apparently, to fly a plane through the Egyptian skies collecting coins and dodging floating mines. The game is available to download from the Google Play app store, although reviews have been mixed.

One player was very dismissive:

"Graphics are poor, controls are not stable, ugly music and a lot of ads all the time. I do not know why people spend time and money in developing such a rubbish."

Conversely, others are more enthusiastic:

"Didn't even see the game yet, but since el SiSi is in it it's good enough, this game deserves more than 5 stars just for el SiSi."

Chocolate

Bahira Jalal, owner of a sweet shop in Cairo, made the headlines last year after producing a range of chocolate featuring Sisi.

"I like al-Sisi very much and consider him a national symbol," she told the al-Watan news agency, "He saved the country from the danger posed by the former regime of the deposed president Mohammed Morsi."

Cologne

Something for the boys now; Il-Sisi rayissi (Sisi is my President) spray-on cologne!

Jewelry

Nina's Bling Bling, the brand name of an " an elegant line of Jewelry derived from Egyptian as well as Turkish inspiration and legacies"  has been responsible for producing some very stylish merchandise, utilising the word "Sisi" and the popular abbreviation "CC".

Underwear

Finally, for those wanting something a bit more risque, someone has placed Sisi's face on some underwear.
