Israel’s killing of six-year-old Hind Rajab may amount to war crime: UN experts

Independent experts have warned that the killing of six-year-old Hind Rajab, her family, and two paramedics in Gaza City in February could constitute a war crime. They are urging the Israeli government to grant access to human rights monitoring bodies.

In a statement, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) criticized Israel's claim that its troops were not present in the area at the time as "unacceptable."

Forensic analysis of the crime scene provided "compelling evidence" that the family's car was in the line of sight of an Israeli tank and was fired upon from very close range with a weapon type unique to Israeli forces.

The OHCHR also noted that the lack of a thorough investigation and accountability, even five months after the incident, is "deeply troubling" and may itself be a violation of the right to life.
