The United Nation's top court ruled that Israel's 57-year occupation of Palestinian land is illegal, a decision that aligns closely with European Union (EU) positions, said the EU's bloc’s Foreign Policy chief, Josep Borrell.

The sweeping opinion by The Hague-based Internation Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday called for the occupation to end as soon as possible. Israel immediately condemned the ruling as anti-Semitic and a "decision of lies."

Borrell stated that the EU had taken "good note" of the court's decision and called for further support for the ICJ's opinion.

"In a world of constant and increasing violations of international law, it is our moral duty to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to all ICJ decisions in a consistent manner, irrespective of the subject in question," he said.

Borrell added that the opinion "will need to be analysed more thoroughly, including its implications for EU policy."

Since 7 October, Israeli forces have killed hundreds of Palestinian healthcare workers and imprisoned others under inhumane conditions. The ongoing attacks on physicians, nurses, paramedics and aid providers, coupled with the destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure, are central to the ongoing genocide.

Throughout this period, we have witnessed the bravery and steadfastness of medical teams in Gaza, who have shown remarkable resourcefulness in addressing the needs of their patients, even as Israel strikes have destroyed the region's hospitals.

The commitment and fortitude displayed by healthcare workers have been aptly characterised as a form of resistance. Their tireless service amid severely challenging conditions, including shortages of essential food and medicine, is to be commended.

Many have received distressing reports of family members killed or wounded in Israeli air strikes, but this has not deterred them from fulfilling their professional and moral obligations.

Pakistan announced the formation of a committee to identify companies to boycott for supporting Israel, according to Wafa.

Rana Sanaullah, adviser on political affairs to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stated, “A committee has been established to identify companies and products in Pakistan that may be directly or indirectly supporting Israel or its forces committing war crimes against Palestinians.”

The accord demands that authorities provide humanitarian assistance for Palestinians and ban products from companies supporting Israel.

The agreement asserts, “Netanyahu is responsible for atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Palestine. We consider him a terrorist and urge the global community to declare Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a terrorist.”

Sanaullah also told reporters in Islamabad, “Pakistan will use every possible means to help Palestinians and condemn Israel as a terrorist state.”

The United States alleged that the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) makes it difficult to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"We have been clear that Israel's program of government support for settlements is both inconsistent with international law and obstructs the cause of peace," a US State Department spokesperson said on Saturday in an email, Haaretz reported.

"However, we are concerned that the breadth of the court's opinion will complicate efforts to resolve the conflict and bring about an urgently needed just and lasting peace, with two states living side-by-side in peace and security," the State Department added.

Legal experts are describing the opinion by the ICJ issued on Friday as a striking and historic initiative that requires taking several legal steps, including allowing for the return of Palestinians who were displaced by Israel when it began its occupation of the Palestinian territories in 1967.

The advisory opinion delivered by the World Court said that Israel must make reparations to Palestinians for damages caused by its occupation, and that the UN Security Council, the General Assembly and all countries have an obligation to not recognise Israel's occupation as legal.

It also said that Israel is systematically discriminating against Palestinians in the occupied territory, and Israel has effectively annexed large portions of that territory through its occupation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Hodeidah port in Yemen is used for military purposes.

He asserted that the port, targeted by the Israeli army, is not an "innocent" facility but is used for military activities, although he did not provide any evidence to support this claim.

Hodeidah port is the primary entry point for most humanitarian aid into Yemen. Israel frequently alleges that civilian infrastructure is being used for military purposes but rarely provides evidence.

The Supreme Political Council of Yemen's Houthi movement said on Saturday there would be an "effective response" to Israeli airstrikes on Hodeidah port, Reuters reported.

The official spokesperson for the Houthis, Nasruddin Amer, described the Israeli airstrike on the oil tanks and power facility at Hodeidah port as "a brutal act of aggression against Yemen aimed at worsening the suffering of its people and pressuring Yemen to halt its support for Gaza."

The Israeli military announced that it carried out strikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in Yemen earlier on Saturday.

In a post on X, Amer dismissed the strike as an "unrealistic Israeli fantasy" and asserted that it would only strengthen the Yemeni people's resolve and their support for Gaza.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, who faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for possible war crimes committed in Gaza, stated that Israel has targeted the Houthis in Yemen to send a message to the Middle East.

“The fire currently burning in Hodeidah is visible across the Middle East, and its significance is clear,” Gallant said in a statement. “The Houthis have attacked us over 200 times. When they first harmed an Israeli citizen, we responded with a strike. We will continue to act wherever necessary.”

On Friday, a long-range drone struck the center of Tel Aviv in an attack claimed by the Houthis. One man was killed, and at least four others were injured.

Houthi attacks against Israeli are in response to the ongoing Israeli onslaught in Gaza, the group says.
