Israeli forces kill Palestinian in raid on Jericho camp

Israeli forces killed a Palestinian and wounded three others in a raid in the occupied West Bank on Monday.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the dead person as Suleiman Ayesh, 20. Israeli forces stormed the Aqabat Jaber camp near Jericho, in what the army called a "counterterrorism operation", and arrested a "wanted suspect".

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said Ibrahim al-Habash and Hossam Faraj were detained in the raid.

Israel’s military also said that two "suspects" were seen fleeing the scene, to which Israeli soldiers responded with live fire. Israeli soldiers also fired shots, sound bombs, and tear gas towards camp residents.

The governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Jihad Abu al-Assal, said that the Israeli military is detaining Ayesh's body, in line with a common practice of withholding the bodies of Palestinians killed during army raids or alleged attacks against Israelis.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces stormed the Aqabat Jaber camp and took positions on the roofs of some houses. They also searched and tampered with the contents of dozens of homes, subjecting their residents to field investigations after detaining them for hours.

The Israeli army also erected military checkpoints and closed all entrances to Jericho for the third day in a row, hindering the movement of Palestinians.

This incident increases the total number of Palestinian killed by Israeli forces and settlers since the beginning of this year to 99, including 16 children, with six deaths since the beginning of April.

Nineteen Israelis and one Ukrainian have been killed by Palestinians so far this year.
