Israeli soldiers wound 13 Palestinians during raid on Ramallah camp

Israeli soldiers wounded at least 13 Palestinians during a raid on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. 

The raid took place in an apparent hunt for suspects in the killing of an Israeli soldier. 

Dozens of Israeli troops entered the Amari refugee camp in Ramallah during the early hours of Monday, closing all entrances, AFP journalists said. 

The Palestinian Health Ministry said that Israeli soldiers fired tear gas and bullets during the raid. 

Residents told AFP that Palestinians had been arrested during the raid, but there was no confirmation or statement from the army.  

Israeli forces later withdrew from the camp.

The raid and subsequent arrests came days after an Israeli soldier was killed during a raid inside the camp.

Sergeant Ronen Lubarsky, 20, of the Duvdevan special forces unit, was struck on the head by a stone block thrown during an arrest raid Thursday and died early Saturday.

Israeli media said the block was a granite slab dropped from a third-floor window.

Amari, located inside the Ramallah, which acts as the seat of Palestinian power, is technically under the full control of the Palestinian government.

Amari, home to around 6,000 Palestinians according to the United Nations, is a regular flashpoint where Israeli raids have sparked fierce clashes in the past.

The Israeli military said that the troops had been seeking a Palestinian gunman. 

Israeli jets strike Hamas in Gaza

Israeli aircraft hit two Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip last weekend as Palestinians continued its protests calling for a right of return for refugees. 

The Israeli army said that its "fighter jets struck military targets in a compound belonging to the Hamas terror organisation in the southern Gaza Strip."

Protests, which have become a common occurance in recent weeks as part of the Great March of Return demonstrations, also continued last week. At least 116 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip since mass protests broke out on 30 March, according to newly released figures from the health ministry in the Hamas-run enclave.

No Israelis have been killed during that time.

Demonstrations along the border have continued since protests peaked on 14 May, when at least 61 Palestinians died while tens of thousands of Gazans protested as the US moved its embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.
