Hamas urges 'resistance' against Israel in West Bank
Palestinian resistance faction Hamas has called for activating "resistance" against Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank.
In a Saturday statement, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the Israeli occupation is the main problem of what he described as "ongoing crimes and violations in the West Bank".
"[This] requires activating the role of the resistance in the West Bank to force the [Israeli] occupation to stop its crimes and protect the Palestinian people," he said.
Early Saturday, Israeli forces raided several Palestinian homes in the West Bank cities of Hebron and Bethlehem.
Tension remains high in the West Bank as Israeli forces continue to clash with Palestinians protesting in solidarity with the embattled Gaza Strip, which has reeled under a weeks-long Israeli offensive that has left at least 1980 Palestinians dead – mostly civilians – and more than 10,000 injured since 7 July.
Over the same period, at least 64 Israeli soldiers have been killed in battles with Palestinian fighters in the beleaguered strip while three Israeli civilians have been killed by Palestinian rocket fire, according to Israeli figures.
